Mostly because I had no idea how the American dating culture worked. In this article, I want to talk about a few major differences I saw between Japanese and American dating cultures.

I refer of course to those of us fortunate enough to find a partner in this country. Indeed, the pursuit of that ideal lady to be my life partner here in Japan has been something of an ongoing struggle throughout the 10 years since I first moved to Tokyo.
Without going into the gory details, I have been engaged twice before and did manage to keep a relationship going for a few years at one point. After all, until I finally walk down that aisle with my blushing bride sometime in the, hopefully, not too distant future, for me to presume to know all about Japanese women would be disingenuous and insulting both to you, dear readers, and to Japanese women in general. So, instead, today I hope to impart a few simple pearls of wisdom garnered from almost a decade of dating in Japan.
Of course, I have to point out that, as a man who dates women, I can only present part of the full picture here. So for the time being, here is a male perspective on dating Japanese women, and how to best go about achieving the goal of a lasting relationship.

Control over their bodies and means to support themselves is a new kind of independence for these girls. Here are some do’s and don’ts for your first date in Japan. Having lived in Japan for 10 years now, I have had my fair share of dating nightmares and wonderful experiences.
I started dating with very poor Japanese skills and raged against any thoughts of compromising my ideals for any man. But with the years I have mellowed and reflected on my experiences and those of my friends and realized that the process of dating in Japan for Western women could be a lot less frustrating if more women knew what to expect — starting from date one. However, this does not mean that Japanese are not seeking any committed relationships. Not long before, Japanese people first met up through friends, family, workplace or a matchmaker. Here are some recent approaches Japanese have taken to meet with new people. This is a more modernised gro up blind date.
